Professor Eugene Char
Black Belt Lineage: Mitsuyo Maeda => Carlos Gracie, Sr. => Helio Gracie => Carlos Gracie, Jr.
Eugene Char, a Woodbridge resident, earned his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt on January 31, 2013 from Master Carlos Gracie Jr., son of the founder of BJJ. Currently a 3rd degree black belt, his subsequent degrees have been earned under Clark Gracie. He has trained, competed, and taught BJJ for 19 years under Gracie Barra, Gracie Gym, Clark Gracie, and OC Jiu-Jitsu academies. He has also been recognized under the Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (SJJIF) and International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF).
Eugene brings over 25 years of educational and coaching experience to the mats. He is a credentialed social science teacher at La Habra High School and was the former Honors/AP magnet program administrator. He previously served as a high profile head and assistant water polo coach at the high school, club, and national levels, producing numerous high school All-CIF and All-Americans, collegiate athletes, and players at the U.S. Youth and Senior National Team levels.
He lives with his wife, a public elementary school teacher, and three sons, who all attend Woodbridge-area schools. Martial arts is a family affair as all three boys have trained and competed in BJJ.
